JTA SKYWAY SAN MARCO STATION PIER INVESTIGATION
JTA SKYWAY SAN MARCO STATION PIER INVESTIGATION
There is 2.5 mile elevated monorail system known as the JTA Skyway that serves eight stations in Downtown Jacksonville. Three of the stations are located on the Southbank and the other five are located at strategic places across the river. Spalling of one of the San Marco Station pier caps at a set of dapped box girder anchor bolts initiated a structural investigation and subsequent repair.
Personal responsibilities included conducting the analysis to determine if the designed capacity of the bridge girder seat meets the required demand in accordance with the AASHTO Bridge Design Specifications; which it did. The issue was determined to be associated with fabrication, and not design. Mathcad and STAAD were used to perform the calculations and analysis. I also took some field measurements and assisted in the development of the repair plans to replace the anchor bolts, patch the spalled concrete, and install a steel angle along the front edge of the cap.
