IRONTON-RUSSELL BRIDGE INSPECTION
IRONTON-RUSSELL BRIDGE INSPECTION
The Ironton-Russell Bridge is a cantilever through truss that was built in 1922 and carries traffic between Ironton, Ohio and Russell, Kentucky. The bridge’s days are numbered as construction of a replacement bridge is underway. The new structure will be a cast in place concrete cable stayed bridge with steel approaches. The main unit of the bridge will consist of three spans; two flanking spans at 370 feet each and a 900 foot center span. The stay towers will be 316 feet tall and diamond shaped. Cost for construction is $81.3 million.
Upon opening of the new bridge, scheduled for the fall of 2015, the construction crew will tear down the existing truss bridge.
