HOOD RIVER BRIDGE INSPECTION
HOOD RIVER BRIDGE INSPECTION
Hood River, OR is a port city located on the south bank of the Columbia River, about 60 miles east of Portland. This area is overflowing with outdoor recreational activities. It is know as the Windsurfing Capital of the World due to the tendency of the wind to whip through the Columbia River Gorge. The city is located at the base of Mt. Hood, an active volcano and the highest point in the state. The slopes of the mountain are commonly skied in the winter time and hiked during the summer. The Columbia Gorge itself is spectacularly beautiful and is dotted with waterfalls, including the magnificent Multnomah Falls.
The Hood River Bridge crosses the Columbia River and connects the City of Hood River, Oregon to White Salmon, Washington. It was built in 1924, making it the second oldest vehicular bridge that spans the Columbia River. The bridge is 4,418 feet long with eighteen deck truss spans and a single lift span that is 262 feet long.
This bridge was inspected using rope access techniques. All fracture critical members were inspected hands-on.
