DAMES POINT BRIDGE INSPECTION
DAMES POINT BRIDGE INSPECTION
The Dames Point Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge that carries Interstate 295 over the St. Johns River in Jacksonville, FL. The structure boasts a 1,300ft. main span and a clearance of 175ft. off the river. The towers rise 300ft. above the bridge deck. The stays of the bridge are composed of steel bars, not cables, sheathed within steel pipe.
This bridge was inspected in October, 2015 with Burgess & Niple as the prime and Ayres Associates and FIT Engineering as the subconsultants. Part of the inspection included a hands on inspection of the cable stay wind ties. A manlift was used to access the lower ties and rope access techniques were used to get hands-on access of the upper wind ties. Sanya Johnson (FIT) played a significant role on the climbing inspection team as she was the active climber inspecting the upper wind ties of four of the eight stay fans.
