BRIDGE OF THE GODS INSPECTION
BRIDGE OF THE GODS INSPECTION
The Cascade Locks Bridge (Bridge of the Gods) is a stunning and massive cantilever through truss bridge that crosses the Columbia River connecting Cascade Locks, Oregon to Skamania County, Washington.
The bridge was named after a geologic feature – a naturally occurring 200 foot tall dam that was created by a landslide sometime around 1400 A.D. The river eventually broke through the dam, but the land bridge created is still remembered in Native American legends as the “Bridge of the Gods”.
The truss bridge was built in 1926 and then elevated and lengthened in 1940. The bridge is 1,856 feet long and has a 705 foot main span. Rope access was used to perform the inspection and gain hands-on access to fracture critical members.
