AMELIA ISLAND BRIDGE INSPECTIONS
AMELIA ISLAND BRIDGE INSPECTIONS
FIT Engineering was contracted to perform routine biennial inspections of two private bridges in Amelia Island, Florida at the behest of the bridge owners and the FDOT. This was FIT's first project working directly for the bridge owner (as opposed to subconsulting for another engineering firm).
The Long Point Golf Cart Bridge is a timber warren through truss bridge that's owned by the Amelia Island Club and was built in 1996 to carry golf carts and pedestrian traffic over SR-A1A.
The Richard L Cooper Bridge, owned by the Amelia Island Community Association, is a four span AASHTO multi-beam bridge that was built in 1975 and carries Marsh Lagoon Road over SR-A1A. This bridge has two twelve foot wide vehicular lanes and a twelve foot wide golf cart lane, separated by a median barrier.
The inspections were performed on foot and the subsequent reports were generated with a custom MS Access database created by me. The database structure was built during my tenure at Burgess & Niple and I have maintained it and modified it over the years for use with clients other than the DOT.
